  • A family cycling holiday on one of the most beautiful and safe bike path in France going from Bordeaux to the Atlantic Coast through the fragrant forests of pine trees and along the beautiful sandy dunes.

    Visit Bordeaux, Unesco World Heritage city, and join the cycle route that runs through the pine forest to the big sand dunes. You ride along the long sandy beaches and the Atlantic Ocean to the peninsula of Cap Ferret.
    Take the boat to admire the Arcachon Basin from the sea and stroll around the beautiful city of Arcachon. Enjoy the Dune du Pyla, greatest dune of Europe, visit small oyster ports and taste the fresh oysters, while your feet hang in the lukewarm sea.

    Stroll in Bordeaux nice old city center. Discover the banks of the Garonne river, the medieval streets and the buildings with chiseled white stones.

    Get out of the city and rally the Bordeaux-Lacanau cycling path. Take a break in the nature, jump in the hotel pool and freshen up.

    A perfect day: the cycling path goes down to the Atlantic ocean through the pine forest. Just enjoy the cool shade of the pine trees and their delicious smell.

    Ride the coastline on the cycling path along the Atlantic coast. Feel free to stop to relax on the beach and enjoy the ocean. At the end of the day, Cap-Ferret will grant you with an amazing view on the Great Dune of Pyla. Take the boat to rally Arcachon and gaze at the bay from the ocean.

    Ride along the coastline and the dunes. Enjoy bathing in the ocean, breathing the invigorating sea air and the beautiful panoramic view from the Great Dune of Pyla.

    Meet the oyster farmers in Gujan Mestras and taste some of their freshest collected oysters. The Leyre delta is an ornithologic park where you can watch a wide-range of bird species with a guide if you wish.

    Bike towards the dune of Pyla and leave the beautiful city of Arcachon behind. Cross the beautiful pine forest on a small slightly hilly country road and reach the impressive lake of Cazaux. The bike tour back to Arcachon is on a very flat bike path.

    On your arrival day, we provide you with:

    • a touring bike adjusted to your size or a tandem
    • equipped : front rack pack with an integrated file compartment, saddlebag, helmet (on demand), reflective vest, repairing toolkit with patches etc.

    We also provide you with the appropriate equipment for your children : baby seat, bike trailer or trailer bike depending on their age and size.

    Electric bikes are also available for adults.


    Luggage


    For this trip, bikes are equipped with 2 waterproof saddle bags with a capacity of 10 to 20L each to transport your luggage. Do not forget to put your items in a soft travel bag to be able that you can roll it up in your saddle bags.

    For more comfort, you can choose to add luggage transport in your booking:
    (see rate in "Prices")

    • We transport your luggage from one accommodation to the next using a private vehicle.
    • Your luggage is directly delivered in your accommodation before you arrive.
    • We provide a saddlebag for the things you shall need during the day.(included in your bike rental)

    Our word of advice : as we know from experience, we strongly recommend you to avoid wearing a backpack during your cycling trip.


    Travel documents

    A cycling holiday is the best way to explore a region and discover its culture, landscapes and local traditions.

    Your tour is self-guided to give you the freedom to ride at your own pace. You will be provided all the information you need to enjoy peacefully the itinerary and its interesting sites.
    You will have in your travel documents maps of the itinerary (A4 format) that we drew at the easiest scale to follow for a bicycle rider.

  • Practical information
  • To get to departure point:

    • By plane: flight to Bordeaux and then shuttle to the city-center.
    • By train: From Paris-Montparnasse rail station, take a TGV train to Bordeaux. The duration of the trip is about 3h20. To plan your trip, www.raileurope.com


    Parking

    If you drive to Bordeaux, you can park your car in a secured car park located in the city center, close to your accommodation and the train station. The daily rate is 6€ and decreases depending on the duration. This parking is secured and opened from 5am to 1am. It is accessbile for vehicules up to 1m90 high. The location and contact details of the car park will be given in your travel documents.


    To get back to starting point:

    Regional trains take you back to your starting point if you wish. They are accessible without booking in advance and bicycles are free. You have to buy your ticket on spot (full rate 11.20€/adult). The duration to commute is about 50 minutes. You will find the timetable of the day in your travel documents.

    If you chose the luggage transport, you will be able to pick up your luggage after 5pm at the pick up location.

    Meeting time:

    You pick your bike in a shop near the train station. You arrive whenever you want depending on where you come from. Please note that the shop is open Mondays to Saturdays from 9am to 12pm and 14pm to 18pm. (Sundays and bank holiday on demand).

    If you chose luggage transport, you must arrive before 10am to drop off your luggage. Bikes pick up point and luggage drop off point are located next to the train station and will be given in your travel documents.

    Nous avons été enchantés par notre séjour au bassin d'Arcachon. Les itinéraires étaient bien expliqués et agréable, l'hôtel était très correct, personnel sympa et le repas délicieux. Maison de l'huître intéressante.

    Organisation avant et pendant le séjour parfaite. Parcours idéal en famille (enfants de 15-12-8 ans). Parcours quasi entièrement cyclable et isolé du trafic. Très sécurisant avec des enfants. Très belle façon de découvrir Bordeaux et les Landes. Par ailleurs, les hôteliers et loueurs de vélos nous ont fait l'éloge de "vélo voyageur"....

    Nous avons parcouru 230 km en 5 jours pour découvrir l'Aquitaine entre Bordeaux- Lacanau - Arcachon. Nous sommes ravis, tout s'est déroulé à merveille, arrivés dans les hôtels, nos valises nous attendaient. Nous avons profité des piscines des hôtels, du Spa à Lacanau, un réel bonheur après notre parcours à vélo. A Arcachon , nous avons conservé les vélos un jour de plus, ainsi nous avons réalisé deux excursions : la dune du Pilat et le lac Cazeaux, le sable chaud et le soleil avant l'ombre et l'eau douce. Nous avons aussi découvert la Maison de l'huître,visite guidée extrêmement intéressante, mais le parc ornithologique nécessitait une visite de 3 heures avec deux heures de plein soleil, nous avons donc préféré nous prélasser au bord de l'eau avant le retour en TER. Nous allons renouveler l'expérience dès que possible car nous sommes emballés par la formule !

    Nous avons apprécié ce parcours plat, sur pistes cyclables. Les paysages sont de plus en plus jolis au fil des jours, aussi nous recommandons de passer une nuit supplémentaire à Arcachon pour profiter des petits ports ostréicoles du bassin d'Arcachon et d'aller sur la dune du Pyla. C'est le 3ème voyage que nous faisons avec Le Vélo Voyageur et l'organisation est toujours aussi top !

    Séjour sportif avec nos 4 enfants de 9 à 17 ans, quel plaisir de partir de Bordeaux, longer les quais et se rapprocher petit à petit de l'océan! On ne prend que l'essentiel et en route pour l'aventure! Rouler en pleine nature, sous la pinède, avec cette délicieuse odeur de pin, c'était fabuleux!
