The Lake Constance bike tour is for a good reason one of the most popular bike path in Europe. The trip takes you once around the lake, through 3 countries, past the island of Reichenau, Mainau and Lindau and the medieval towns of Konstanz and Meersburg.

  • This bike ride around the Lake Constance takes you through the small typical German villages at the foot of the Alps. The route is flat and is composed almost exclusively of bike lanes which wind along the beaches of Lake Constance. Discover the charming towns of Constance, Lindau and Bregenz, wander between the apple orchards and vineyards near the castle of Meersburg and enjoy several ferry crossings to admire the lake from the water side. The Lake Constance with its magnificent panorama is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the region.

    Arrival in Constance

    Walk around the beautiful old medieval city of Constance or make the most of your first day by making a little trip to Mainau Island, the flower island.

    The collections of the museum in the center of the old town offer a glimpse of the rich pre and protohistory of the region of the Lake Constance. You will often find special exhibitions such as the exhibition on the life of Napoleon III, who spent his youth in the region.

    Constance – Unteruhldingen/Meersburg

    Continue your bike ride through the German countryside beyond Constance to the Island of Mainau, the island of flowers. You cross the lake with the ferry to Überlingen. On the way, do not miss the charming, baroque, Birnauchurch, so typical of the region. In Unteruhldingen you can visit the prehistoric museum. Period huts on stilts have been reconstituted.

    Unteruhldingen/Meersburg – Friedrichshafen

    Stroll in the mediaeval city of Meersburg and contemplate its impressive castle. Ride through the vineyard until Friedrichshafen where you can visit the Zeppelin museum. From Immenstaad, you will go to Friedrichshafen by boat and enjoy the beautiful panoramas the river offers.

    Friedrichshafen – Lindau

    Continue your ride on the dedicated bike route and stop in Lindau, a little, typical Bavarian city. Wander around the old city and savour a good “Käsekuchen” (cheese cake) on the harbor.

    Lindau – Rorschach

    You continue your bike ride to Bregenz, in Austria. Cross the Rhine Delta Nature Reserve, which flows into the lake there, and go near the famous Hundertwasser hall.

    Rorschach - Constanz/Kreuzlingen

    Ride on the Swiss shore through the lush countryside and the little villages. You cross Romanshorn, the biggest harbor of Lake Constance. Enjoy the end of afternoon by walking around the old city of Constance.

    After breakfast take a city tour before returning home or extend your stay.

    On your arrival day, we provide you with :
    • a touring bike adjusted to your size or a tandem
    • equipped : front rack pack with an integrated file compartment, saddlebags, helmet (on demand), reflective vest, repairing toolkit with patches etc.

    We also provide you with the appropriate equipment for your children : baby seat, bike trailer or trailer bike depending on their age and size.

    Electric bikes are also available for adults for some trips. If available, the option is specified on the page "prices".

    Luggage


    Our services include luggage transport in order to let you enjoy your trip comfortably and without stress (optional for short trips) :
    • We transport your luggage from one accommodation to the next using a private vehicle.
    • Your luggage is directly delivered in your hotel room before you arrive.
    • We provide bicycle saddlebags for the things you shall need during the day.

    If your package doesn't include luggage transport,
    the bikes will be equipped with 2 waterproof saddlebags with 10 to 20L capacity each to carry your things.

    Our word of advice : as we know from experience, we strongly recommend you to avoid wearing a backpack during your cycling trip.


    Travel documents

    A cycling holiday is the best way to explore a region and discover its culture, landscapes and local traditions.

    Your tour is self-guided to give you the freedom to ride at your own pace. You will be provided all the information you need to enjoy peacefully the itinerary and its interesting sites.
    You will have in your travel documents maps of the itinerary

    - a detailled bike map (scale 1:50 000)
    - a leaflet with the point of interest and your practical information (hotellist, opening hours, etc.)

    By car

    By train:

    • From Strasbourg passing by Offenburg (3h)
    • From Lyon passing by Dijon and then Zurich (5h50)

    Parking:

    If you arrive by car, you can park at the closed open-air parking at the bike rental shop. The rate is 40€ for the duration of your trip (booking not possible).

    The location and contact details of the car park will be given in your travel documents.

    Meeting time:

    The first day is an arrival day without cycling. You arrive whenever you want depending on from where you come. Please note that rooms are usually available in the middle of the afternoon depending on your accommodation. We thank you to advise us if you plan to arrive late.

    “ Lac de Constance ”

    Un parcours très facile et agréable en famille autour du lac de Constance. Avec nos deux filles, l’aînée de 7 ans qui a pédalé tout le long, et la cadette de 4 ans et demi en vélo suiveur. De chouettes vacances sportives !

    Nous avons eu beaucoup de plaisir à pédaler autour du lac de Constance. Les amoureux de la nature apprécieront particulièrement la visite de l'île de Mainau et la traversée du delta du Rhin. Les habitants sont très accueillants. Du dépaysement situé tout près de la France ! De plus, tout est prévu pour les cyclistes même en ville : pistes larges, parkings, WC. De nombreuses haltes possibles autour du lac pour se baigner dans de l'eau à 22°. Organisation du séjour impeccable !
