  • Discover the troglodytic treasures of the Loire Valley between Saumur and Angers. The route follows partially the “Loire à vélo” along small villages on the banks of the Loire. Stop in the shade of willows in the numerous “guinguettes” along your route.

    You will discover the changing colors of the Loire Valley, the traditional “toues” (boats) rocking between sandbanks, but also the vineyards of Saumur or the fortress of Angers with its incredible medieval tapestry, the best preserved in Europe.

    This bike ride have you also discover the secrets of the Loire Valley starting from the discovery of the troglodytic treasures of Doué-la-Fontaine and Rochemenier.

    Day 1


    Day-trip to Doué-la-Fontaine and Rochemenier

    You leave the old town of Saumur and ride along the Thouet. Then, you get to Doué-la-Fontaine through small hilly country roads.

    Do not miss to visit the Faluns Mystery, a magnificent troglodytic cathedral. Doué is also known as the City of Roses. Stop in the rose garden and discover more than 500 varieties of roses.

    A little further, in the village of Rochemenier, you can experiment a lunch with candles in a troglodytic restaurant.

    Day 2


    Saumur - Gennes

    This journey gives you the opportunity to fully enjoy the beauty of the Loire valley. You leave Saumur and follow the Loire on the bike path "Loire à vélo", along which you will discover many beautiful little villages with their medieval churches.

    In Trèves you stop for a visit of the 15th century-old dungeon. Shortly before reaching Gennes your path will lead you through a magnificent forest, along a beautiful pond. It’s the perfect place to picnic!

    Day 3


    Gennes - Juigné-sur-Loire/Ponts-de-Cé

    You continue to enjoy the charms of the Loire valley. You ride along the small villages of the Loire and enjoy the many small cafés to relax in the cool shade of the willows.

    Day 4


    Juigné-sur-Loire/Ponts-de-Cé - Angers

    You cross the Loire and the Loiret in Ponts-de-Cé and ride down the Loire to the confluence of the Maine. Finally, Angers appears with its castle, its fortress and its lively streets.

    On your arrival day, we provide you with:

    • a touring bike adjusted to your size or a tandem
    • equipped : front rack pack with an integrated file compartment, saddlebag, helmet (on demand), reflective vest, repairing toolkit with patches etc.

    We also provide you with the appropriate equipment for your children : baby seat, bike trailer or trailer bike depending on their age and size.

    Electric bikes are also available for adults (+1m55).


    For this trip, bikes are equipped with 2 waterproof saddle bags with a capacity of 10 to 20L each to transport your luggage. Do not forget to put your items in a soft travel bag to be able that you can roll it up in your saddle bags.

    For more comfort, you can choose to add luggage transport in your booking:

    • We transport your luggage from one accommodation to the next using a private vehicle.
    • Your luggage is directly delivered in your accommodation before you arrive.
    • We provide a saddlebag for the things you shall need during the day.(included in your bike rental)

    Our word of advice : as we know from experience, we strongly recommend you to avoid wearing a backpack during your cycling trip.

    GPS tracks

    For this trip, we also provide the GPS tracks on demand in the .gpx format at no extra cost.

    Travel documents

    A cycling holiday is the best way to explore a region and discover its culture, landscapes and local traditions.

    Your tour is self-guided to give you the freedom to ride at your own pace. You will be provided all the information you need to enjoy peacefully the itinerary and its interesting sites.
    You will have in your travel documents :
    • a detailed map (A4 format) of the itinerary that we drew at the easiest scale to follow for a bicycle rider
    • a step-by-step description of the itinerary (bound A5 format) giving the direction to follow at each intersection
    • a tourist leaflet containing a brief presentation and useful practical information (opening time, price, contact) about the points of interest along the way

  • To get to departure point:

    • By plane: flight to Nantes or Tours.
    • By train: TGV (fast trains) from Paris Montparnasse and connection in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps or Angers to take a regional train to Saumur. The duration of the trip varies from 2h00 to 2h30. To plan your trip, www.raileurope.com.


    If you drive to Saumur, you can park your car for free in a open car park located in the city center. The location and contact details of the car park will be given in your travel documents.

    To get back to starting point:

    Regional trains take you back to your starting point if you wish. They are accessible without booking in advance and bicycles are free. You have to buy your ticket on spot (full rate 8.90€/adult). There are several trains per day. You will find the timetable in your travel documents.

    We can also organise a transfer in a private vehicule on demand.

    If you chose the luggage transport, you will be able to pick up your luggage after 5pm at the pick up location.

    Meeting time:

    You pick up your bikes in the morning between 9.30am and 12.30pm. We recommend you to arrive at around 10am to enjoy your day fully without rushing and be able to do the visits on the way.

    If you chose luggage transport, you must arrive before 10am to drop off your luggage. Bikes pick up point and luggage drop off point are located next to the train station and will be given in your travel documents.

    Séjour agréable, hébergement et restauration de qualité. Il est possible que nous refaisons un 3eme séjour l'année prochaine !

    “ Circuit bords de Loire ”

    Un circuit très bien pensé pour faire avec des enfants, j'étais avec un ado et un enfant de 9 ans : pour le premier jour, nous avons choisi l'aller/retour Montreuil Bellay et nous avons bien fait, l'autre circuit aurait été trop long. Le kilométrage des autres jours est bien pensé et permet d'envisager du repos ou des visites ou une autre activité (canoé). Les itinéraires sont sécurisés, chemins carrossables sauf quelques petites portions et routes très peu fréquentées hormis là aussi quelques petites portions en ville. Mention plus pour les hébergements avec un très bon accueil partout, des chambres spacieuses, literie grand confort et déco soignée, petits déjeuners très copieux. Un petit bémol par rapport à la location des vélos : accueil cordial mais minimal, la qualité des vélos était plutôt moyenne, il s'agit de vélos tout chemins, assez peu confortables pour faire vraiment du kilomètre, 1 sacoche arrière par vélo adulte, donc 2 sacoches en tout pour nous, il vaut mieux mettre les 2 sur le même vélo sinon cela déséquilibre franchement, le vélo enfant faisait un bruit terrible en roulant mais quand nous sommes repassés voir le loueur, il a vérifié et dit que puisque rien n'était cassé, il ne changeait rien. J'admets qu'habitant en montagne, nous sommes habitués à des VTT de bonne qualité y compris à la location. Tout le reste était parfait : transfert bagage opérationnel, road book très détaillé et complet, retour vélos très opérant... Cela a été un très bon moment...
