On this bike tour you discover not only the 3 castles: from the medieval castle Blandy-les-Tours to the classic-style castles of Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte, but also the rich natural heritage located at the gates from Paris. You cross the forest of Fontainebleau, which inspired so many painters at the beginning of the last century or ride along the banks of the Seine and its eccentric houses.
This bike ride on the outskirts of Paris is truly a breath of fresh air, nature and cultural heritage!
Day-trip to Vaux-le-Vicomte
You start the day north of the Fontainebleau forest. On small country roads and paths you quickly reach the charming village of Blandy-les-Tours and admire its fortified castle, a rare vestige of medieval military architecture. A few kilometers further you discover the magnificent 17th century castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte and its formal French gardens. After strolling there, you cut through the woods to reach Melun and the banks of the Seine. Along the Seine on the towpath, you can admire the "Affolantes", these 1900s mansions each competing in architectural boldness with the other.
Day-trip to Fontainebleau
You continue to follow the banks of the Seine river while continuing to admire the "Affolantes". You pass through the charming village of Samois-sur-Seine, known to be the last residence of musician Django Rheinhardt. You will soon arrive at the park of the Château de Fontainebleau. Through a small door you access the estate and ride along the grand canal with a breathtaking view of the castle. After a stroll through the lively streets of Fontainebleau you will quickly find the tranquility and silence of the forest. Stop in Barbizon, known as the village of impressionist painters. In fact, what in 1850 was only a place of lumberjacks quickly became a fashionable place for pre-impressionist painters who sought inspiration from nature. You will find Bois-le-Roi either through small country roads or through the forest.
