The itinerary follows the Loire river to meet the Loire castles as prestigious as Villandry, Langeais, Ussé (castle of Sleeping Beauty) or the fortress of Angers where you'll see the best preserved medieval tapestry. You will discover the changing colors of the Loire Valley, the traditional boat (toues) swaying between sandbanks, but also the vineyards of Saumur or the Abbey of Fontevraud. Discover the charms and the animation of the old Tours with its half-timbered houses, the Saint-Gatien cathedral, the Wilson bridge and the Plumereau square. You will ride along the bike paths along the Loire River to get out of Tours and reach the Villandry castle and its gardens. Enjoy the banks of the Loire before arriving in front of one of the only medieval castles of the Loire Valley, the castle of Langeais. You will also cross a magnificent medieval bridge under which you can see the toue and barges.
Take a self guided tour of the castle and it's gardens. Originally a medieval fortress transformed into a Renaissance castle is now a Unesco World Heritage site.

Start your day in Souzay-Champigny, where you'll cycle through a magnificent troglodyte complex. Stop to taste the wines of Saumur and discover its castle with its impressive dungeons. Leaving Saumur, you follow the banks of the Loire through peaceful villages with a rich heritage. Don't miss the medieval churches in the villages along the Loire bike route. Before arriving in Gennes, you'll pass through a forest and alongside a pond: one of the most beautiful spots on the Loire route for a picnic and a rest.

You continue to enjoy the rich heritage of the Loire Valley. You pedal through the small villages along the Loire and enjoy the many guinguettes, where you can rest in the cool shade of the willows. At Les Ponts-de-Cé, you cross the Loire and the Loiret, and cycle down the Loire to the confluence with the Maine, which you follow quietly upstream through a forest and alongside the lake. Finally, Angers comes into view, with its castle, fortress and lively streets.

Beginning of the trip
You start your trip with a cycling day, and can arrive at any time of the day depending on the opening hours of the bike store or depot point. However, we recommend arriving at the departure point early enough in the morning to make the most of the day.
Please note that if you select the luggage transport option, you will be asked to arrive early in the morning of the first day.
To get to the departure point
By plane: flight to Paris then train to Tours or flight to Tours.
By train: arrive at Tours train station (city center or Saint-Pierre-des-Corps), from Paris (direct or with connections), by regionnal train or high speed train (TGV). Plan your journey with Trainline.
Car park
If you’re coming by car, you can park your vehicle in one of the city’s public parking lots. In Tours, we recommend the Indigo Gare – Palais des Congrès parking lot.

To get back to the starting point
You take the train back to your departure point. The ticket can be bought in advance online or directly at the station on the day of travel. There are several trains during the day. If you’re traveling with your own bike, be sure to ask the SNCF about conditions for traveling with a bike.
