Vélodyssée / Atlantic Coast Route – EuroVelo 1

Also called the Vélodyssée, the Atlantic Coast Route is one of France's longest cycle routes, covering 1,300km and enabling you to cycle along France's western coastline from Roscoff to Hendaye, or vice versa. The route crosses Brittany, taking in part of the Nantes-Brest canal as far as Nantes, then stretches through the Vendée and Charente-Maritime, before reaching the Gironde, the Arcachon basin, the Landes pine forest and finally the Basque coast. The route is ideal for family cycling holidays by the sea, as the Vélodyssée is 80% car-free and offers plenty of opportunities to swim in the ocean. Our organised holidays allow you to cycle a section of the route, stretching from Nantes to the Basque Country. The Atlantic coast by bike is a destination for nature lovers, as you cycle most of the time through forests, marshes or along long sandy beaches. It's an invitation to daydream in a relaxing atmosphere, the key to a successful cycling trip.
