  • Do like the Dutch, get on your bike and visit the Netherlands by bike!
    The cycle paths are fantastic, the bike is truly the king of the road.

    The start of this loop is located in Huizen, 30 km from Amsterdam. You follow cycle paths along canals and through parks. You ride in the middle of the polders around Amsterdam dotted with pretty historic villages like Monnickendam, Volendam, Edam.

    To cross Lake IJ, you take the boat. Then you move away a little from the lake to discover the national parks and the Dutch countryside and it’s tulips. After a week, you find yourself in Huizen, your starting point.

    This week by bike will seduce you by revealing Holland in all its authenticity.

    Day 1

     
     

    Arrival in Huizen

    You first hotel is located in the harbour area of Huizen. You can visit this small town, which is well known for it’s windsurfers’ lake and beach.

    Day 2

     
     

    Huizen - Katwoude or Volendam

    Your bicycles will be deliverd to your accommodation. You start cycling along the southern shore of the IJsselmeer and you reach Muiden, where you can visit the medieval castle.
    You cross Amsterdam city center (you can book a night in Amsterdam if you like). The capital of the Netherlands is magnificent and worth a longer stay. You cross the river IJ by ferry and continue on comfortable cycling lanes until you reach the former estuary of Waterland with meadows, ancient canals and millions of birds.

    Visit the island of Marken where the houses are built in wood, as if time has stood still.
    Shortly after, you arrive in Volendam or Katwoude where you spend the night.

    Katwoude or Volendam - Enkhuizen

    You’re cycling on the old Zuiderzee dike and through the cheese town of Edam. In the picturesque town Hoorn you’ll see imposing buildings from the golden age. We recommend planning a guided tour of Enkhuizen and/or a visit of the Zuiderzee museum.

    Enkhuizen - Lemmer or Oudemirdum

    You take the ferry across the IJsselmeer to the Frisian city Stavoren. Here you can decide to make a wonderfull loop to the scenic Hindeloopen. Through the wooded countryside of Gaasterland an so to Workum, where you will spend the night in either Brink or the port town of Lemmer.

    Lemmer or Oudemirdum - Giethoorn

    Very soon, you’ll see the steam-pumping station of Lemmer and then you go acress the Weeribben. This national park is unique with an exceptional wealth of flora and fauna. If you are there in spring/early summer, you’ll cycle along many tulip fields.
    Giethoorn is called the "Venice of the north" with a myriad of arched bridges, boats and farmhouses.

    Giethoorn - Nunspeet

    You navigate from Giethoorn to the city of Kampen, which is located on the IJssel river. Via the attrective fortress city of Elburg and along small lakes, you’ll reach Nunspeet, at the edge of the largest forest in the Netherlands, the Veluwe.

    Nunspeet - Huizen

    On your last cycling day, you cycle through the old port city of Harderwijk and the fishing village of Spakenburg. You return to Huizen on the wooded banks of ’t Gooi.

    We advise an extra night in Huizen to recuperate from your journey before travelling home.

    On your arrival day, we provide you with:

    • a touring bike adjusted to your size or a tandem
    • equipped : front rack pack with an integrated file compartment, saddlebag, helmet, reflective vest, repairing toolkit with patches etc.
    Please bring your own helmet for sanitary reasons.

    We also provide you with the appropriate equipment for your children : baby seat, bike trailer or trailer bike depending on their age and size.

    Electric bikes are also available for adults (+1m55).

    You can of course also bring your own bikes, in this case a reduction will be applied (see the Tarif tab)


    Travel documents

    A cycling holiday is the best way to explore a region and discover its culture, landscapes and local traditions.

    Your tour is self-guided to give you the freedom to ride at your own pace. You will be provided all the information you need to enjoy peacefully the itinerary and its interesting sites.
    You will have in your travel documents maps of the itinerary (A4 format) that we drew at the easiest scale to follow for a bicycle rider.

  • How to get to the starting point:

    • By plane: fly to Amsterdam Schiphol, then the train to Huizen
    • By train: Trains from Brussels, Paris, London, Berlin,... with a correspondence in Amsterdam to Huizen; to plan your voyage : https://www.thetrainline.com/

    Parking:

    If you come by car, you can park your car for free near the hotel.


    Meeting time:

    Your bicycles will be delivered to your accommodation the morning your start cycling and they are available until 6 p.m. on the last day of cycling. Your rooms will be available as off 3 p.m.
