From Rennes to Saint-Malo through Dinard

This three-day tour gives you a chance to relax, clear your mind and feel revigorated by enjoying beautiful scenery while getting exercise.

We hope you return home feeling ready to conquer your world! This bike tour through the scenic and historical area of Brittany gives you plenty of opportunity to enjoy many attractions. The route follows safe, designated bike paths along winding roads in the countryside. Discover the picturesque towns of Saint-Malo, Dinard and Rennes while snacking on crepes and freshly squeezed apple cider.

Program

Day 01
Arrival at Rennes

Free time of arrival in Rennes, check-in at your accommodation during reception hours.

The lively and active capital of Brittany welcomes you. Stroll along the Ille and Vilaine rivers, discover this lively city whose architecture mixes styles and eras. Immerse yourself in the heart of Brittany by tasting galettes and crêpes on a sunny terrace.

 
Day 02
Rennes – Hédé

You follow the quays to the Ille et Rance canal and continue your escapade by the towpaths. Don't miss the Maison du Canal, a museum that retraces the stages of its construction.

The locks, numerous and lively, will give rhythm to your bike ride.

 
Day 03
Hédé – Dinan
  • 38 km
  • + 63 m

Continue along the canal and towpath. Take time to explore the medieval town of Lehon with its splendid Royal Abbey.
In Dinan, don’t miss taking a look at the 43 meter high "Tour de l’Horloge" which consists of both a dungeon and a bell tower.

 
Day 04
Dinan – Saint-Malo

The greenway, a road reserved for bicycles, goes away from the canal to wind between fields and forests along an old railway.

You arrive in the heart of the seaside town of Dinard. Ride along the large villas overlooking the sea and walk on the beach among the small two-colored huts, which make the charm of Dinard before embarking for Saint-Malo.

 

You take a boat from Compagnie Corsaire with your bikes from Dinard to Saint-Malo. The crossing takes 10 minutes.

Equipment

On your arrival day, we provide you with:

 

  • a touring bike adjusted to your size;
  • equipment: a front panier, a saddlebag (or two if luggage transport is not included), a helmet (on demand), complete repair tool kit.
We also offer on this trip:  
  • electric assisted bikes for adults (+1m55);
  • children bikes / equipment depending on their sizes (trailer, trailer bike, baby seat).

You can of course also bring your own bikes, in this case a discount will be applied.

For this trip, you can also use our smartphone app featuring GPS guidance (without extra fee). You will find in the app all the information given in the map and step-by-step roadbooks. You will be located on the itinerary with the GPS device of your phone. The route and directions to follow will be both viewable on the screen of your phone and announced aloud. As you ride along the itinerary, you will be given information about visits, restaurants, services and useful alerts on the way. -> You need to have a smartphone and download Le Velo voyageur app on your Apple or Android store before the trip. All details regarding the download and use of the app will be given after we have confirmed the booking and the balance is paid. Once the trip is downloaded, the GPS guidance can be used off-line.
A cycling holiday is the best way to explore a region and discover its culture, landscapes and local traditions.

Your tour is self-guided to give you the freedom to ride at your own pace. You will be provided with all the information you need to enjoy the itinerary and its points of interests.   We can send printed travel documents (extra cost of €15 for printing and postage, in France only), which include:  
  • a roadbook with maps that we drew at the easiest scale to follow on a bike;
  • a roadbook with step-by-step description giving the direction to follow at each intersection and highlighting the points of interest.

Information

Beginning of the trip
 

As the first day is a non-biking day, you’ll arrive at your leisure, depending on your route. Please note that rooms are usually available by mid-afternoon, depending on your accommodation. Please let us know if you are arriving late.

To get to the departure point

By plane: flight to Rennes.

By train: TGV (fast trains) from Paris Montparnasse. The duration of the trip is about 2h20. To plan your trip, www.parkopedia.fr

Car park

If you drive to Rennes, you can park your car in a secured car park located in the city center. More information on www.parkopedia.fr

To reach back the starting point

There is a train between Saint-Malo and Rennes (several train per hour, duration: 1h.) You can also depart directly in TGV from Saint-Malo.
