You will discover some of the most prestigious castles of the Loire Valley such as the castle of Chenonceau, the castle of Azay-le-Rideau, the castle of Villandry or the castle of Loches and the small hidden gems, as the cave troglodytes villages, the many mills of the Indre Valley or the last home of Leonardo da Vinci, the Clos Lucé. Discover also the medieval towns of Amboise and Loches.

Day 01
Arrival in Tours

    Discover the charms and the animation of the old Tours with its half-timbered houses, the Saint-Gatien cathedral, the Wilson bridge and the Plumereau square.

    Tours – Amboise via Vouvray

    You leave the city center of Tours and meander through the small villages of Vouvray along the troglodytic cellars to reach the medieval city of Amboise.

    Enjoy a tour and a tasting to discover the work of the wine growers from winter pruning to the grape harvest, and learn about the selection of the wines which will constitute the "cuvées" of the year.

    Amboise – Chenonceaux

    Your tranquil bike route today leads you through idyllic natural beauty with rivers and forests, leading to the most iconic Chateaux de la Loire, the "Chateau de Chenonceau". This historical castle had an almost uninterrupted succession of women who built, restored and saved the castle. Today it is one of the most photographed castles in France. If you like, continue riding along the banks of the Cher River until you reach the underground city near Bourré and its mushroom cellar. 

     
    Visit of Clos Lucé’s castle

    Take a self guided tour of Leonardo da Vinci's last living place : the castle, Leonardo's workshop, the cultural park and the "Leonardo da Vinci, painter and architect galeries".

    Chenonceaux – Loches

    You cross the Cher river and drive through the countryside to the small village of Chédigny, also called the village of roses. Then, you continue your ride to the medieval city of Loches and its fortress on the banks of the Indre river.

    Take a self guided tour of the castle and its gardens and discover the great history of the site, also called the ladies' castle.

    Loches – Montbazon

    You leave Loches by the banks of the Indre and ride through the numerous small charming villages that border the river. You cross the river on a Roman bridge and admire the medieval vestiges which punctuate your bike ride.

    Montbazon – Azay-le-Rideau

    You leave the charming little town of Montbazon and meander along the Indre River, through small villages, past numerous watermills and troglodytic houses. In this valley of the Indre, the French writer Balzac found his inspiration. Several of his books tell about these places. You can visit his house in Saché before arriving at the beautiful castle of Azay-le-Rideau.

    You meander through the forest to reach the castle of Villandry and its gardens. Enjoy the banks of the Loire river before reaching the city center of Tours via the bicycle paths.

      Beginning of the trip
       

      As the first day is a non-biking day, you’ll arrive at your leisure, depending on your route. Please note that rooms are usually available by mid-afternoon, depending on your accommodation. Please inform your host in case of late arrival.

      To get to the departure point

      By plane: flight to Paris then train to Tours or flight to Tours.

      By train: arrive at Tours train station (city center or Saint-Pierre-des-Corps), from Paris (direct or with connections), by regionnal train or high speed train (TGV). Plan your journey with Trainline.

      Car park

      If you’re coming by car, you can park your vehicle in one of the city’s public parking lots. In Tours, we recommend the Indigo Gare – Palais des Congrès parking lot.

      You can also look at the Parkopedia website to find out the location and price of each parking lot.

      To get back to the starting point

      Your cycling trip is a loop, so you return to your starting town by bike.
