Heading towards the southwestern tip of the European continent! After a possible run at the market in Aljezur and a visit to the small Moorish fortress overlooking the old town, the marked trails cross eucalyptus forests or heaths of aromatic plants to Carrapateira, a fishing village that has become famous for its surfing spots. A detour takes you to the superb beach of Bordeira and along a coastline of spectacular cliffs. Then the route continues towards the village of Vila do Bispo before reaching the legendary Cape Saint-Vicent by tracks. Overnight in Sagres.

    Day 06
    Sagres – Lagos
    • 47 km
    • + 500 m

A bike tour of the Sagres Fortress is a must. A cycle path circles the peninsula, which was a bit like NASA in the early 15th century, where the Portuguese prepared for their great maritime voyages. A small museum recounts this epic journey. Then, cycle paths or small roads run along the southern coast of the Algarve, in a more Mediterranean atmosphere. Ochre cliffs, golden beaches, and white villages punctuate this ride to the famous Ponta da Piedade, a true geological monument where the elements have sculpted arches, caves, bridges, and limestone chasms. A visit to the city of Lagos is a beautiful end to this stay in southern Portugal.
