This cycling journey through Girona and the Costa Brava offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and nature. Beginning in the medieval city of Girona, you’ll wander its baroque old town, explore the Gothic cathedral, and stroll the well-preserved Jewish quarter before setting off on your biking adventure. Each day reveals a new landscape, from the fertile valleys of the River Ter and volcanic hills to the scenic coastline along the former “El Carrilet” railway line. Along the way, you’ll encounter charming medieval villages such as Peratallada and Pals, discover ancient Roman ruins at Empúries, and ride past lush marshlands, vineyards, and rolling countryside.
The route also immerses you in the authentic spirit of Catalonia, with visits to castles, historic monasteries, and the world-famous Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. Cycling distances vary, offering both gentle coastal stretches and more challenging climbs through the Gavarres mountains. Each evening, you’ll settle into picturesque towns like Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Torroella de Montgrí, and Castelló d’Empúries, where medieval streets and traditional cuisine await. The journey concludes back in Girona, where you can reflect on a week of diverse landscapes, cultural treasures, and unforgettable cycling experiences.

Boucle Gérone – Rivière Ter – Dalmai

On the first day you will discover the inland countryside of the River Ter with its large old farms. You will then head west to Anglès via the Ter River. At Bonmatí you will cross the river then go up to Mas Llunes descending south to the ancient La Crosa volcano. Finally, return to Girona through the fields near the city. A first step rich in landscape!
Gérone – Sant Feliu de Guixols

From Girona you bike leisurely towards the coast. You will walk along the former railway track "El carrilet" long used as a means of transporting the goods cork. You will then reach Sant Feliu with its seaport and its historical city, beautifully illustrated by his old Benedictine monastery of the 10th century.
Sant Feliu de Guixols – Torroella de Montgrí

This stage has two distinct parts, a first and last very flat part and a central part with a large assent and descent. You will start the stage passing by the seafront towards Calonge, going through the fields to the church of Santa Coloma de Fitor. Your route continues downhill until you reach the magnificent medieval village of Peratallada. Then you go to Pals, another medieval town. Finally, passing through a flat area of fields you will arrive at Torroella de Montgrí.
Torroella de Montgrí – Castellò d’Empúries

After the Montgrí uplands you reach the bay of Roses with its long sandy beaches and numerous natural resources.
Close to the medieval town of Sant Mari de Empúries you visit the archaeological site and remains of the Gallo-Roman period dating from 600 BC. The city of Empúries was an important market place of the Roman Empire.
You continue North through the protected marshlands of Aiguamolls de l’Emporda and arrive at the wonderful medieval village Castellò Empúries located in the heart of the natural park of the Aiguamolls.
Castello d’Empuries – Figueres

Today you are heading to Peralade, where you visit the castle and medieval town. From there you ride through a green and wild countryside passing by Garriguella, Vilamaniscle and Rabos with the most ancient groves. You stop to visit the modern cellar of Espolla, before riding down to Figueres. Enjoy the visit of the world famous Theatre-Museum Dalo.
Figueres – Girona

This stage is divided into two very different areas. The first is very flat through the fields and the second part very mountainous by the Gavarres. You will leave Figueres passing through fields and small villages like Vilamalla Siurana or Camallera. You will continue crossing fields until you arrive at Bordils there you will go to Sant Martí Vell. After a nice climb, you will go back down to the valley of Sant Daniel which will make you arrive in Girona directly in the heart of the city center, where you can dine in one of its good restaurants and enjoy the end of the trip.
