From Buffon to Dijon along the canal
You will cycle mostly along the canal of Burgundy for this bike trip in a region, full of surprises! Discover the must-see sites of the area such as the abbey of Fontenay, the castle of Commarin or the battle site of Alesia between the Gauls and Romans. On your own pace, explore the traditionals hamlets of Semur-en-Auxois, Châteauneuf or Flavigny-sur-Ozerain and ride through the locks of the canal enjoying a view over the countryside.
These biking holidays start in Montbard, the city of Buffon and end in Dijon, the city of a hundred churches. You will have all the time to enjoy the heritage and the art of life of the region with its wines and local specialities!

Get on your bike and ride along the Burgundy canal with the bucolic countryside in mind. The day's program includes some of the jewels of Burgundy's heritage to discover as you please. To learn more about the history of the region, visit the great forge of Buffon, an 18th century industrial masterpiece. For architecture lovers, don't miss the Fontenay abbey, the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world and a Unesco World Heritage Site. You finally leave the Burgundy canal at Pouillenay to reach the medieval city of Semur-en-Auxois, standing on a pink granite plateau.

After strolling through the lively streets of Semur, you will embark on a journey through time to the land of Alesia, the famous battle site between the Gauls and the Romans. The museopark and the statue of Vercingetorix will certainly remind you of the comic strips of the famous Gauls Asterix and Obelix. The adventure then continues in the village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain and its famous anise factory. You join the canal and its restful banks before finding the ramparts of Semur-en-Auxois.

Then enjoy the sweetness of regional life and don't miss the visit of the Dukes of Burgundy Palace.
Described as the "city of a hundred steeples" by François I, Dijon was the capital of the powerful Dukes of Burgundy. The city has thus inherited architectural jewels such as the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, the Church of Notre Dame with its famous sculpted owl or the mansions of the old Dijon. The city is also a gastronomic stopover rich in specialties such as gingerbread, crème de cassis, nonettes or the famous mustard.

As the first day is a non-biking day, you’ll arrive at your leisure, depending on your route. Please note that rooms are usually available by mid-afternoon, depending on your accommodation. Please let us know if you are arriving late.
If you come by train, we are happy to offer you the taxi transfer from Montbard train station to Buffon (included).
To get to the departure point
By plane : flight to Paris and train until Montbard.

Car park
If you choose to drive, you will be able to park your car for the whole duration of the trip at you accommodation’s parking.
To reach back the starting point
Train : Regional direct trains take you back to Montbard, duration : 30 to 40min.
Then, we are happy to offer the taxi transfer from Montbard train station to Buffon to take back your car.
